Barbara J. Landes “beloved wife, mother and grandmotherâ€
SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Barbara J. “Barb†Landes, 72, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Lakeview Senior Care and Living Center, Smethport, after a long illness.
Born January 9, 1941 in Norristown, she was a daughter of William and Mary Steele Kutz. On July 2, 1960 in St. Eleanor’s Roman Catholic Church, Collegeville, she married Milton T. Landes, who survives.
She attended St. Eleanor’s School and was a 1959 graduate of Collegeville-Trappe High School.
Mrs. Landes was a secretary at Superior Tube in Collegeville for 2 years. In 1976 she and her family moved to Shinglehouse where they owned and operated the former Knotty Pine Tavern for many years, and later employed as a secretary at RAM Forest Products, Shinglehouse. Barb was a freelance writer for over 25 years having written the column “Bits and Pieces†for the Potter Enterprise and the Leader Enterprise.
She was a member of St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Shinglehouse. She loved to write, garden, and most especially, spend time with her family.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Loretta J. (George) Donovan of Shinglehouse and Christine M. Landes of Brick, NJ; two sons, Milton T. (Jennifer) Landes, Jr. of Marlboro, NJ and Michael P. (Brenda) Landes of Broadsheadville, PA; eight grandchildren, Sarah Donovan, Emily Donovan, Lauren Donovan, Gregory Donovan, Stefanie Landes, Timothy Landes, Milton T. Landes III, and Madison Landes; and a brother, William “Bill†Kutz.
Mrs. Landes was predeceased by her parents.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, Shinglehouse with Father Thomas Brown, pastor, as celebrant.
Parish prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, PO Box 277, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
