COUDERSPORT, PA---Beulah A. Bliss, 91, of Coudersport, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2016, in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, following a lengthy illness.

Born September 24, 1925 in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Paul and Elsie Wood Stanger.  On September 1, 1950 in Jamestown, NY, she married Floyd W. Bliss, who passed away in November of 1976.

Mrs. Bliss graduated from Shinglehouse High School and attended Nyack Missionary College in Nyack, NY.

She had taught school in Idaho, and along with her husband owned and operated Bliss Poultry Farm and Hatchery and the Big Blue Barn Antique Shop in Shinglehouse.  She worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for various businesses locally and later in Harrisburg. In 1989, she bought H & R Block in Coudersport and ran it for 11 years while also running Bliss Bookkeeping Service until the age of 80.

While residing in Shinglehouse, Mrs. Bliss was a member of the First Baptist Church and was presently a member of the Ellisburg Union Wesleyan Church and the Ellisburg Community Club.  Mrs. Bliss was an accomplished needle worker, specializing in knitting and crocheting.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Judy B. Spaeth of Port Richey, Florida, Deborah  Bliss Plummer and Rebecca L. (Robert) Nolan, both of Coudersport; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister; Betty Kemp of Lancaster, NY; a brother; John Stanger of Tampa, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bliss was preceded in death by a daughter; Jacquelyn Jo “Jacky” Gordnier who died on January 23, 2014; a sister, Phyllis Brooks; an adopted brother, Gene Stanger; a son-in-law, Christopher Keller; and three beloved nephews.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the Ellisburg Union Wesleyan Church, Ellisburg, where funeral and committal services will follow at 3pm with the Rev. Roy Ward, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Oswayo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mrs. Bliss’ family to help with final expenses, c/o Deborah Plummer, 7 East Sixth Street, Apt. 4, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Mrs. Bliss’ family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
