Chester "Chet" "Bill" Duell

Chester Duell           “beloved husband, father, grandpa, and brother”  

MILLPORT, PA----Chester “Chet” “Bill” Duell, 67, of Millport, went home to his heavenly Lord, whom he praised and proudly served, on Monday, September 9, 2013, with his loving family by his side at the Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a short illness.
     Born June 15, 1946 in Wellsville, NY, he was a son of Charles Duell and Beatrice McCaslin Duell Farrand.  On September 26, 1970 at the Chrystal United Methodist Church, he married Lois Maryette Dickerson, who survives.
     Chester was a 1964 graduate of Addison Central School in Addison, NY.  He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966 and was in the Army Reserves stationed in Wellsville, until retiring in May of 1995.  Chester proudly took his family with him on his two weeks active duty each year, having them visit many states vacationing while he served his country.  
     He was employed as an industrial electrician for 39 years at the former Air Preheater in Wellsville retiring in 2009.
     Chet was a devoted member of the Millport United Methodist Church. He recently became a lay speaker, of which he was very proud.
     Chet enjoyed helping friends and family. He enjoyed mowing lawns, having done so for many neighbors and friends.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and going to stock car races in Woodhull, NY.
     Surviving besides his wife are a son, Neil C. (Sharon) Duell of Coudersport; two very special grandsons, Joshua and Shawn Duell, who were the love of his life; three sisters, Irene Cavell of Columbia, NC, Charlene (Jim) Runyun of Elkland, and Carlene (Eric) Jones of El Cajon, California; a half brother, Walt Duell of Woodhull, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents, Chester was predeceased by a daughter, Sheilla Duell; and a brother, Mike Duell.
     Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Millport United Methodist Church, officiating.  Committal services and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
     Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military honors on Friday.
     Flowers are gratefully declined and will be furnished by his family. Memorials may be made to the Millport United Methodist Church, 206 Fairground Road, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
