Clyde F. Harris Beloved husband and Father
ROCHESTER, NY---Clyde F. Harris, 88, of Rochester, formerly of
Shinglehouse, PA, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 17, 2012 in his
home with his loving family at his side after a long battle with cancer.
Born April 17, 1923 in Carnesville, Georgia, he was a son of Melzar
C. and Sarah Lou Woody Harris. On February 8, 1946 in Carnesville, he
married his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret M. Osborn, who survives.
Mr. Harris was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the
the 17th Airborne Division in Europe. He was employed at the former Clark
Brothers in Olean and the former Farrel Corporation in Rochester.
He was a member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530 and a
member of the V.F.W. in Rochester. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing,
and bowling. He loved to help everyone he met. He would snowblow his
neighbors driveways. He will be remembered as a big man with a big heart.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Donna S. Bianchi of
Henrietta, NY and Gibsonton, FL and Georgia L. (Vernon) Cooper of
Clifton Springs; a son, Charles F. (Tina Ortega) Harris of Shinglehouse;
seven grandchildren, Lisa Coleman, Michael (Sabrina Avery) Coleman,
Melissa Bianchi, Meredith Lockman, Tyler Harris, Donovan Freece, and
Brett Ortega; five great-grandchildren, Josh Coleman, Alyssa Coleman,
Selina Santiago, Alessandro Cruz, and Carter Ortega; two sisters, Mayrene
Taylor of Dover, Delaware and Anna Hopkins of Gastonia, NC; and several
nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harris was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Della Harris; and two
brothers, James N. Harris and Cleo Harris.
Friends may call on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at
the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse,
PA at which time funeral service will follow. The Rev. Russell J. Horning,
pastor of the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, will officiate. Committal
services and burial will be held in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord full military
honors on Tuesday.
