Dale A. “Ponch” Pinney     “beloved father, brother, uncle and friend”

RICHBURG, NY---Dale A. “Ponch” Pinney, 56, a lifelong resident of the Bolivar, NY area, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, July 15, 2016.
     Born on September 9, 1959 in Olean, he was a son of Arthur L. and Joyce A. Hawkes Pinney.
     Ponch was a graduate of Bolivar High School, Class of 1977.  During high school he completed 1000 hours of machinist training through the BOCES program.
     Ponch, since age 19, was employed at the Bolivar High School (now Bolivar-Richburg Central School) as a custodian where he enjoyed a special connection to the students.  He had also been employed by the former Al Glintz Convenience Store and Gas Station in Bolivar.  In his youth, he delivered the Olean Times Herald in Little Genesee.
     Ponch was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Kenyon Andrus Post 772 in Bolivar.  He was a member of the Genesee Valley Antique Tractor Club.  In his younger years he enjoyed stock car racing.  He enjoyed horseshoe pitching tournaments and bean bag tournaments.  He would weld and tinker for his family and friends.
     Surviving are four children, Michelle (Clint) Burdick of Richburg, Michael (Jamie) Learn of Scio, Steve (Tamera) Learn and Brian Learn, both of Richburg; several grandchildren; three brothers, William A. “Bill” (Janice”) Pinney of Galeton, PA, Mark D. (Betty) Pinney of Almond, and Russell A. (Lynn) Pinney of Bolivar; a sister, Jody A. Allen of Bolivar; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents, Ponch was predeceased by a sister, Sandra “Sandy” Knowlton.
    Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 with the Rev. David Herne, pastor of Heritage AFlame Ministries, Bolivar, officiating.  Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Little Genesee.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sons of the American Legion Kenyon Andrus Post 772, 387 Main Street, Bolivar NY 14715 or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
