Earl D. Gustin       “devoted husband, father, and grandfather”

 

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Earl D. Gustin, 80, of Shinglehouse, went to be with the Lord as he joined his wife, Anna, in heaven on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a lengthy illness. 

     Born April 25, 1936 in Myrtle, he was a son of Howard Gustin and Doris Haynes Gustin Gross.  On November 14, 1954 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Shinglehouse, he married Anna M. Frair, who passed away on September 18, 2003.

     Mr. Gustin was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School class of 1954. He retired from Dresser-Rand in Olean, NY in 1994 as an industrial engineer, after 40 years of service.

     Mr. Gustin was a member of the Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle Church in Myrtle, where he served as church treasurer and as an elder and trustee. In the past, he was an active member of the Oswayo Valley Sports Boosters. He was always a fan of attending sporting events of his children and grandchildren.  He enjoyed a good round of golf, tinkering with cars, and loved his sweets, but most of all, enjoyed time spent with his family. 

     Surviving are his four sons, Dave (Carolyn) Gustin, Rus (Karen) Gustin, Scott (Sharron) Gustin, all of Shinglehouse, and Steve (Renee ') Gustin of Jacksonville, Florida; a daughter, Shelli (Wes) Meyer of St. Mary's; eleven grandchildren, Kevin (Kathy) Gustin, Andy (Catrina) Gustin, Chris (Hiedi) Gustin, Melissa (Jared) Wells, Tim (Nicole) Gustin, Matt (Alyssa) Gustin, Mike Gustin, Bethany Gustin, Ryan Gustin, Shea Meyer and Sierra Meyer; a step-grandson, Brian Drake; eight great-grandchildren, Meghan Gustin, Dylan Gustin, Jacob Gustin, Jordyn Gustin, Sage Gustin, Leah Gustin, Camden Gustin, and Hannah Gustin; two step-great-granddaughters, Julia Hopkins and Brittany Hopkins; two step-great-grandsons, Caleb Drake and Collin Drake; a great-great granddaughter, Amber; two brothers, Philip ( Linda) Gustin of Long Beach, CA and Ronald (Libby) Gustin of Olean, NY; two sisters, Janice Woodkirk (Jack) Pease and Vivien  (Philip) Frair, both of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Gustin was predeceased by an infant son, Randy Gustin; an infant grandson, Nathan Gustin; and a sister, Geraldine Babcock.

     Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Curt MacDonald of the Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Myrtle Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle Church, 1127 Route 44, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
