Eldyn was one of the greatest historians of his church. He knew just about everything and loved sharing great stories and facts. I am so sad to have learned about Eldyn's passing, and feel deeply for his family's loss. The great hope we have is that we will see Eldyn again!

May God rest your soul in peace.Amen

I worked for Eldyn when I was in high school.  He really made a lasting impression on me and over the years some things would remind me of him, for example: always staple parallel to the top of the page and although mail will still get there if the stamp was slanted, best to keep it straight.  When I moved back to Thousand Oaks, it was great to see him again.  My deepest sympathies.

Potter County will always be such a special place in its children's hearts.  Seems pleasing to know Eldyn came back to rest there until Jesus comes. May God be with us as we each appreciate the life that Eldyn has had.  My heart reaches to his family in our grief.

With heavy hearts Jeannie and I are writing from camp meeting in Newfoundland, Canada 4 time zones to the east from California.  Our long-time Voice of Prophecy friend and colleague Eldyn Karr suddenly passed away this weekend.  My!  My!  A prince and a great man has fallen in Israel.  He left exactly like he lived.  Quietly.  Graciously.  With gentle dignity.  Without demands or harsh words or even a frown, he surrendered himself a quiet, humble gentleman into the waiting arms of his Savior.  Death, selfish and cursed enemy of man, seemed to win another battle.  But Psalm 116:15 clearly states, Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.  And Revelation 14:13 adds, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth...They rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.

Eldyns works do follow him.  For tens of thousands of Voice of Prophecy listeners and readers of the VOP News Eldyn was a household word for four-and-a-half decades.  He goes way back to the days with HMS Richards at our Glendale office in the 1960s.  Jeannie first met Eldyn there when we graduated from Seminary in 1970 and worked at the Vallejo Drive Church and Jeannie worked with Eldyn at the Voice of Prophecy headquarters on Chevy Chase Drive.   For all of us who knew Eldyn, he came into our lives and left footprints on our hearts.  And we are never, ever the same.  I salute the life of this extremely well-read Herculean spiritual giant.  His integrity and magnanimity, his deeply spiritual faith and old-fashioned values.  His incredible gift of communicating Jesus as our best Friend through his gifted pen combined with his passion for perfect journalism and exceptional photography Eldyn was infected with evangelism and insisted on creative new ways to share the Gospel.  For decades his communication skills was a hallmark and benchmark for HMS Richards, his son Harold, the Kings Heralds Quartet, Del Delker, the Bible School and frankly for all the language-families of the Voice of prophecy teams world-wide.  He knew them all and served them graciously and expertly.  Eldyn was family to Adventists world-wide.   Hard-working.  Honest.  With a passion for excellence.  Sadly he lost his parents many years ago and had no close kin.  None.  Therefore we at the Voice of Prophecy WERE HIS FAMILY.  He loved Jeannie and me.  We were the same ages.  He never forgot our birthdays and always sent a card.  At Christmas we looked forward to his jug of maple syrup from Pennsylvania or Vermont.  But most importantly, Eldyn was one of the most loyal workers I have ever known in my ministry.  No exceptions.

So what can I say?  Jeannie and I grieve deeply to think that because he lived alone and often preferred solitude, it hurts to think he died alone.  That hurts the most.  But heres the good news.  Eldyns inimitable lifestyle leaves behind a legacy of well-marked Ebenezers benchmarks that continue to reverberate in the lives of thousands who are living legends -- legacies in people! -- persons whose lives today were eternally influenced, changed, re-cast, transformed and redeemed as a direct result of Eldyn Karrs incredible influence and generous lifes testimony.  What more can I say?  He touched my heart.  He touched my life.  And I am eternally grateful.  In the words of Shakespeare, heres to you, Eldyn:
I can no other answer make,
Than Thanks.  And Thanks.
And Thanks again!

Voice of Prophecy family and close friends of Eldyn whoever you are and wherever you might be -- as we collectively pause to salute Eldyn Karrs life the only comfort that Jeannie and I can find in this tragic news is to know that he is not suffering.  He is at rest.  Taking a well deserved nap in lieu of his retirement which happened just a few weeks ago!  Unbelievable!  Eldyn never really got to enjoy retirement.  What can we learn from this?  My!  Life is so fragile.  Thats why his passing should remind each of us to take inventory.  Lets not forget to reach out to everyone in our circle of friends; to intentionally go out of our way to affirm, love and encourage them every day!  Jeannie and I are storming the gates of heaven in behalf of each of you because we know you feel the same angst and sadness at this sudden passing.  Were sick and feel a pit in our tummies.  Thank God for The Blessed Hope without which we would be most miserable, to quote the Apostle Paul.

Good-bye, Eldyn.  Well see you in the morning!

Written from Camp Woody Acres along the Trans-Canada Highway one hour west of St. Johns, Newfoundland where Im the keynote speaker for the Newfoundland Conference Camp Meeting this week.  It is Sunday afternoon, July 19, one day after we all heard the tragic news.  Ironically, Eldyn wrote the obituaries and death announcements for dozens and dozens of Voice of Prophecy team members including H.M.S. Richards and my own parents; but he probably never designated anyone to write his own life history.  God alone will fully make this up to him.  Underneath are the Everlasting Arms.  (Deut.  33:27)

I had not seen or heard from Eldyn since he graduated from high school, but I have often thought of him over the years. Most school mornings I met him and Jeff Zwirnbaum at his house and the three of us walked to school together until they graduated a year before me. His intelligence was obvious even then. The two of them had permission from Mr. Natzle, the Chemistry teacher, to work unsupervised in the chem lab during their free periods. One day as I walked up the hall toward the lab there was a sudden loud BOOM! As I got there Mr. Natzle came hurrying down the hall to unlock the lab. Just inside the door were two white-faced, big-eyed (uninjured) young men. One of their experiments had blown the glass out of the lab hood which they had been using as per safety regulations for potentially dangerous experiments. After that Mr. Natzle made sure that all of their experiments were pre-approved.
Although our relationship was short, Eldyn made a lasting impression on me. Rest in Peace, Eldyn Karr.
