Ellwood D. Cosgrove                “beloved husband, father, and grandfather”

COUDERSPORT, PA---Ellwood D. Cosgrove, 91, of Coudersport, passed away with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in Cole Manor, Coudersport, after a period of declining health.

Born on Thursday, December 28, 1933 in York, he was a son of Lacy P. and Irene M. Young Cosgrove. On October 13, 1956 in Cockeysville, MD, he married Betty L. Layne, who survives.

He was a graduate of York High School. Ellwood was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean War from 1952 until 1956. For a brief period of time, he served as a police officer in West Manchester Township. He was later employed by Philadelphia Electric Company at the Peach Bottom Generating Station and retired as a Shift Superintendent from Exelon Corporation at the Limerick Generating Station.

Ellwood was a member of Park United Methodist Church in Coudersport. He was a member of Friendship Lodge #663 F. & A.M. in Fawn Grove and was a member of the Coudersport Consistory. Ellwood was a life member of Potter Post American Legion #192 in Coudersport and was a life member of VFW Post #7133 in Fawn Grove and a life member of VFW Post #3880 in Lake Placid, Florida. He was also a member of the Loyal Order Moose #826 in Galeton. Ellwood enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 68 years; two sons, David L. Cosgrove of Bel Air, MD and Troy T. (Megan) Cosgrove of Fairfield, OH; four grandsons, Kendall L. Cosgrove and his wife Nicole, Patrick A. Cosgrove, Nolan T. Cosgrove and Matthew J. Cosgrove; two great-grandsons, Logan D. Cosgrove and Jamie A. Cosgrove; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ellwood was predeceased by two sisters, Dolores Jackson and Dorthy Crone; and two brothers Earl Cosgrove and Leonard Cosgrove.

Graveside services will be held in Homer Cemetery, Inez on Friday, July 18, 2025 with the Rev. Greg Rapp, pastor of Park United Methodist Church, Coudersport, and The Rev. Thomas Shatto of Galeton, will officiate.

Members of Eulalia Lodge #342 F. & A.M. will conduct a memorial service at the grave.

Members of the  Potter County Honor Guard will accord mililary honors at the grave.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ellwood’s name may be made to Park United Methodist Church, 15 East Third Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Ellwood entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
