Evelyn Hughes “beloved mother, grandmother, and sister”

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Evelyn Hughes, 87, of Shinglehouse, formerly of Cogan House, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, after a long illness.

Born on Friday, March 3, 1933 in Blossburg, she was a daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth Pontefract Kline. On August 17, 1951 in Liberty, she married Carl E. Hughes, who passed away on March 17, 2015.

Evelyn was a graduate of Liberty High School in Liberty. She was a member of the Steam Valley Bible Church, where she served as an organist and a Sunday school teacher. While living in Shinglehouse, Evelyn attended Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church. She very much enjoyed her flower gardens, growing vegetables, canning and cooking. Her greatest love was her devotion to the Lord and her family.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Earl L. (Marlene) Hughes and Carl E. (Deborah) Hughes, Jr., both of Trout Run; a daughter, Carlene F. (Theron) Hendershot of Shinglehouse; six grandchildren, Stephen (Celeste) Hughes, Charity (Chad) Vonneeda, Andrew (Shawnalee) Hughes, Sabrina (Sean) Perkins, Natalie (Pastor Phil) Seely, and Joshua Hendershot; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lenore (Howard) Soffel and Betty (Lynn) Shedden; a brother, Preston Kline; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was predeceased by a brother, Colby Kline.

In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funeral services will be held privately with Evelyn’s grandson, Pastor Phil Seely, of Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery, Trout Run.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to Cole Memorial Home Health and Hospice, 102-108 South Main Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to Grace Bible Independent Baptist Church, 392 Coon Crossing Road, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
