George E. Locke    â€œbeloved husband, father, and grandfather”

COUDERSPORT, PA----George E. Locke, 67, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a long illness.
     Born November 7, 1947 in East McKeesport, he was a son of Frank E. and Georgia L. Power Locke.  On January 18, 1974 in DuBois, he married Yevonna A. “Candy” Brown, who survives.
     George was a graduate of Irwin High School in Irwin and a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, WV with a bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry.  George proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of SP5.
     After his service, he was employed in Pittsburgh at St. Francis Hospital and was later employed as the Lab director at Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois.  In 1978 George was employed as the Lab Manager at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport until retiring in February of 2013 as Lab Director.  He also served as an expert witness in Forensic Toxicology in Potter County working mostly with the Potter County District Attorney’s Office.  George served Potter County for many years as the Chief Deputy Coroner.
     George earned his Eagle Scout award in 1964.  He was a life member and past commander of the Coudersport American Legion Post 192 and was a life member of the Raymond Richar VFW Post 6611 in Galeton.  He was a founding member of the Potter County Honor Guard, a duty he held dearly.  He was a member of Eulalia Lodge #342 F. & A.M. in Coudersport, a member of the Moose Lodge 460 in Port Allegany, and a member of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association Inc.
     George loved life and his country.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved going to his camp in West Virginia.  His greatest love was his family, especially his grandsons.
     Surviving besides his wife are a son Jason E. (Terri) Locke of Milton; a daughter, Tracy L. (Ronald Jr.) Dunlap of North Ridgeville, Ohio; four grandsons, Trey Locke, Ty Locke, Brody Locke, and Ronald Dunlap III; and many friends.
     In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a brother, Sandy Locke.
     Friends may call on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Trula L. Hollywood, Episcopal Priest from Sayre, PA, officiating. Burial will be in Sweden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.
     Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Tuesday at the funeral home.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coudersport American Legion Post 192, 2 Buffalo Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors Inc., 1117 Country Club Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011.
