Ginger S. James            â€œbeloved mother, grandmother, and sister”

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Ginger S. James, 69, of Shinglehouse, passed away at home with her loving family by her side on Monday, January 18, 2016, after a long illness.
     Born on July 4, 1946 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Gifford C. and Effie G. McLeod Kellogg.  On September 1, 1967 in the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, she married Ricky E. “Rick” James, who passed away on September 29, 2014.
     Ginger was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse and received her Bachelor’s degree from Career Academy, Dental Assistants Division, on February 6, 1965.  She worked for several years in Olean as a dental assistant.      Ginger was elected and served as the Shinglehouse Borough Tax Collector for 42 years until retiring due to ill health.
     Ginger was a longtime member of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.  She was a member of the Oswayo Valley Historical Society in Shinglehouse where she enjoyed volunteering at the Society.  An avid golfer, Ginger was a longtime member of the Bolivar Golf Club.  She enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and she also enjoyed gardening.
     Surviving are a son, Mark L. (Dayle) James of Shinglehouse; two grandsons, Trenton R. James serving with the U.S. Air Force in Minot, ND and Corey L. James of Shinglehouse; a sister, Jill Hill of Olean, NY; a brother, Kevin (Regina) Kellogg of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents and husband, Ginger was predeceased by a sister, Kim Anders.
     In keeping with Ginger’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.  A celebration of her life will be held at a place and date to be announced.  Ginger was buried next to her husband Rick on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.  The Rev. Becky Edwards, pastor of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, offered graveside prayers.

     Ginger’s family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
