SEBRING, Florida---Greta Mae Jackson, 91, of Sebring Missionary Village, Sebring, Florida, formerly of Coudersport, Pa., went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, October 25, 2019, at the Kenilworth Care and Rehabilitation Center, Sebring, after a short illness.

Born on Friday, February 24, 1928 in Borie, Summit Township, Potter County, she was a daughter of Merrick Victor and Miriam Joy Reed Jackson.

Greta was a graduate of Coudersport High School, Class of 1944.  In 1951, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, returning to Coudersport to work as a registered nurse at the Coudersport hospital until 1954. 

In 1954 Greta, along with her sister Lois, became a student at Tennessee Temple Schools in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in preparation for the mission field.  During Bible school and college, she worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. In 1960, Greta was accepted as a missionary candidate by Sudan Interior Missions and in 1961 she sailed on a freighter from New York City to Switzerland for language studies and then ultimately to Dahomey, French West Africa where she served as a nurse on several mission stations for approximately 45 years.

Greta returned to Coudersport upon her retirement from the mission field, residing there for several years before moving to Sebring Missionary Village.

Surviving are a sister, Marilyn Jackson (Dr. Robert) Wagner of Coudersport; two brothers, Donald “Buck” (Carol) Jackson and Daryl (Judy) Jackson, both of Coudersport; and many nieces nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Greta was predeceased by a brother and his wife, Dale and Jane Jackson; and two sisters, Lois I. Jackson and Rhea Reeves and her husband, Pastor Charles Reeves.

Family and friends may call from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday, October 31, 2019, at the North Eulalia Baptist Church, Route 49 West, Coudersport, where funeral services will follow at 11 am with Michael C. Reeves, pastor and Greta’s nephew, officiating.  Burial will be in Summit Cemetery.

Greta’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, Pa.
