Jane K. Rice     “beloved mother, grandmother, and sister”

MILLPORT, PA---Jane K. Rice, 67, of Millport, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 in Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a long illness.
     Born June 12, 1947 in Shinglehouse, she was a daughter of Murray E. and Ethel Densmore Kemp.
Jane was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, class of 1964.  She attended St. James Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Hornell, NY and later studied nursing at Corning Community College in Corning, NY.  
     Jane was the office nurse for the late George Mosch in Coudersport for many years.  She was a school bus driver in Shinglehouse for 18 years.  She was also a loving teacher’s aide, having mentored Noah Howard who taught her as much or more than she did him.  Jane held many other positions in the area and was currently serving as Oswayo Township secretary.
     Jane was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse, a member of Eureka Chapter #52 Order of the Eastern Star in Shinglehouse, and a charter member and secretary of the former Oswayo Valley Lions Club in Shinglehouse.  She had been a 4-H leader for many years.  She loved painting ceramics, working in her flower gardens, and being outdoors.  In her earlier years she enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Her greatest love was her family.
     Surviving are a son, Jason R. Rice of Coudersport; a daughter, Kelly J. Bauer of Ehrhardt, SC; two grandsons, Kaleb M. Rice and Kyle C. Rice, both of Ulysses; a brother, Neil D. (Barbara) Kemp of Pennsburg; a sister, June K. (Gary) Murray of Shinglehouse; a sister-in-law, Gloria J. Kemp of Shinglehouse; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to her parents, Jane was predeceased by a brother, David M. Kemp.
     Family and friends are invited to call from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, where a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Fred Kemp, pastor of the Potter County Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating.  
     Members of Eureka Chapter # 52 O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service on Tuesday evening in the church.
     Flowers are gratefully declined and will be provided by the family.  Memorials in Jane’s name may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to the Potter County Hospice, 269 Route 6 West, Coudersport, PA 16915.
     Jane’s family has entrusted her care to the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
