Joyce M. Raymond

March 14, 1936 — December 4, 2021

Joyce M. Raymond “loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many”

ROCHESTER, New Hampshire---Joyce M. Raymond, 85, of Rochester, New Hampshire, formerly of Ceres, PA, Olean, NY, and Bolivar, NY, passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, December 4, 2021, in Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, NH, after a short illness.
Born on Saturday, March 14, 1936, in Kossuth, NY, she was a daughter of Floyd E. and Flora B. Harris Olmstead. On November 28, 1963 in Portville, NY, she married John Raymond, who passed away on April 10, 1990.
Joyce was a graduate of Bolivar High School.
She was a member of the Southern Tier Quilt Guild in Olean, NY. Joyce taught quilting at the Little Genesee Public Library, was involved in the historical society, and was a member of the Republican Women’s Club. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting as well, but quilting was her real love. When her eyes and hands started making it difficult to do her quilting, she became quite an avid poker player with other residents at the Manor. She taught other residents to knit when she moved to the Manor, where she was a member of the Manor Council, being a wonderful advocate for the patients. She also loved baking, particularly at the holidays. Many of her recipes live on in the households of her children and grandchildren.
Joyce was a proud and active grandmother. She was always happy to be the landing spot for the grandkids so she could spend quality time with them. She took great joy in being able to watch them learn and grow.
She was always ready with a cup of coffee, a ride or anything else for a friend in need. She had a great sense of humor and was loved by many.
Surviving are her three daughters, Sandra K. (Kenneth) Plants of Shinglehouse, PA, Helen R. Decker of Hornell, NY, and Lorraine M. (Mark) Leone of Rochester, NH; six grandchildren, Jason (Kelly) Plants, AJ (Julia) Plants, Heather (Daniel) Randall, David Decker, Dante Leone, and Kyra Leone; two step-grandchildren, Brandy Decker and Kim Decker II; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Deb Olmstead of Goodview, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was predeceased by her three sisters, Esther M. Earl, Eleanor M. Smith, and Roah M. (Ray) Smith; her two brothers, Floyd J. (Delores) Olmstead and Gerald B. Olmstead; and a son-in-law, Kim Decker.
Private funeral services will be held at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA. Burial will follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a chapter of the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Joyce entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
