Kay L. Hanes     “beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister”

BRISTOL, INDIANA---Kay L. Hanes, 60, of Bristol, Indiana, formerly of Shinglehouse, PA, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, after a short illness.

Born on June 18, 1956 in Olean, NY, she was a daughter of Edwin E. “Tip” and Maryellen Lucille Hackett Phillips.  On November 20, 1976 in the Faith Bible Church, Little Genesee, NY, she married James A. “Jim” Hanes, Sr., who survives.

Kay was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1974, in Shinglehouse.  She was employed by the former A.V.X. Corporation in Olean. 

Kay attended and was very active at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Shinglehouse.  She was a member and past president of the former Shinglehouse Volunteer Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed Bible study classes.  Her greatest love was her family.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, James A. “Jimmy” (Heather) Hanes, Jr. of Bristol; twin grandsons, Hunter and Cooper Hanes; a granddaughter, Ella Mae Hanes; a brother, Clifford E. “PeeWee” (Linda) Phillips of Shinglehouse; a sister, Beverly Sue (Joe) Riehle of Shinglehouse; five nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Kay was predeceased by her parents.

Friends may call from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm on Friday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, December 3, 2016, with the Rev. Chad E. Shaffer, pastor of the Bell Run Union Church, Shinglehouse, officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 475, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
