Larry A. Ayers         “beloved father, grandfather, and brother”

ROULETTE, Pa.---Larry A. Ayers, 61, of Roulette, formerly of Coudersport, passed away in his home on Friday, September 14, 2018, after a short illness.

Born on March 30, 1957 in Coudersport, he was a son of Randall B. and Iva I. Knowlton Ayers.  On July 6, 1985 in Shinglehouse, he married Dorrie A. Bhe, who passed away on October 29, 2007.

He graduated from Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 1976, in Shinglehouse.  Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves, serving from 1977 to 1980.  From 1980 until 1983, he served active duty.  He was employed for 36 years by Morgan AM (formerly Pure Carbon) in Coudersport, retiring on May 24, 2018 due to ill health.

Larry was an avid hunter. He loved playing golf and riding his motorcycle. He served as a coach for the Potter County Special Olympics.

Surviving are a son, Walter D. “Fred” (Roxanne) Miles, Jr. of Roulette; a daughter, Michele L. (Adelbert) Thompson of Port Allegany; two granddaughters, Natasha M. (Jeffrey) Birath of Port Allegany and Brittany M. (Travis Clark) Leyva of Milesburg; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty L. Nolan of Shinglehouse, Shirley A. (Clayton) Watson of Bradenton, Florida, and Delores M. (Michael) Broscious of Shinglehouse; four brothers, William B. (Paula) Ayers of Bolivar, N.Y., James F. Ayers of Shinglehouse, Raymond D. (Terry) Ayers of Summit, N.Y., and Gary W. (Laura) Ayers of Grand Haven, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Larry was predeceased by four brothers, Gene E. Ayers, Ronald J. Ayers, Charles L. Ayers, and Leland C. “Bacon” Ayers.

Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Bell Run Union Church, Taylor Brook Road, Shinglehouse, where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Chad Shaffer, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Ayers Hill Cemetery, Coudersport.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or to Potter County Special Olympics, PO Box 255, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Larry’s family has entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
