Louise F. Bess           “beloved mother”

SILVER CREEK, NY---Louise F. Bess, 89, of Silver Creek, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, after a short illness.

Born on June 26, 1928 in Millport, Pa., she was a daughter of John R. and Pauline M. Presher West.  In Bradford, Pa., she married James E. Bess, who preceded her in death.

Louise was employed as a dietary aide by Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo for many years.  She was also employed as a housekeeper for several families in the Buffalo area.

She was a member of the New York State Family Care Providers Association.  Louise loved to make beaded banners and she loved to sew, but her greatest love was her family.

Surviving are two daughters, Marlene K. Bess of Buffalo and Genny F. Stone of Stockton; Jill Hyman of Derby, who Louise raised and considered a daughter; two brothers, Groves E. West of Shinglehouse, Pa. and Lee S. (June) West of Cuba; and several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Louise was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia A. Petruzzi; a grandson, Ronnie B. Barksdale; four brothers, Lynn West, Loyd West, John West Jr. and Burdett West; and three sisters, Lucille Harmon, Mary Stonemetz and Virginia Kennemuth.

Friends may call from 12 noon to 1pm on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, Pa., where funeral services will follow at 1pm, with the Revs. Robert M. and Sandra D. Howles, pastors of the Shinglehouse United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in the Pauline M. West Cemetery, Millport, Pa. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
