SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Melinda L. Wood, 53, of Shinglehouse, PA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 18, 2013, in the Olean General Hospital, Olean, NY, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on September 14, 1959 in Wellsville, NY, she was a daughter of Larry A. and Alice F. (Chain) Walker. On July 14, 1979 in Ceres, PA at the Ceres United Methodist Church, Melinda married John C. Wood, who survives.
Mrs. Wood attended the Oswayo Valley Schools in Shinglehouse, PA. Melinda worked at AVX Corporation in Olean, NY as a machine operator from July 1979 until April 2012, retiring due to ill health.
Mrs. Wood was a member of the Bell Run Union Church, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved to crochet and make patchwork quilts. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband and mother of Shinglehouse, Mrs. Wood is survived by a son, Michael (Linda) Wood of Roulette, PA; a daughter, Shannon (Joe) Rajczak of Coudersport, PA; a stepson, Bryan (Michaelynn) Wood-Dickson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Kelly S. Wood and LeeAnn Arnold, both of Dayton, Ohio; ten grandchildren; a brother, Todd (DeeDee) Walker of Shinglehouse, PA; a sister, Lora (Randy White) Williams of Wellsville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her father.
At Melinda’s request, there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union St., Shinglehouse, on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11 AM with Rev. Robert Achey, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Clearfield, PA, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bell Run Union Church, 904 Taylor Brook Rd., Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
