Michael Alan Perkins    “beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend”

OSWAYO, Pa.---Michael Alan “Perk” Perkins, 64, of Oswayo, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, after a long illness.

Born on August 25, 1953 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Reuben and Ella Downs Perkins.

Perk attended Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse.  He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was a very hard worker who loved to work.  It had been said that he worked circles around guys 30 years younger than him.  He loved being a pipeliner.

He was saved and baptized at the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse where he was a very active member.  Perk enjoyed spending time with his daughters, playing with his grandkids, who called him “Poppa Perk”, riding his 4-wheeler, and kayaking.  He also had a great passion for hunting.  In his youth, Perk was one of the original five boy scouts in the area led by Mr. Lynn Kemp.

Poppa Perk will be greatly missed by his daughters, Celena Perkins, Ashley Carpenter, and Chrystal (Josh) Klein; his grandchildren, Aaron, Cody, Catelyn, Mason, JohnMichael, Cali, Jacob, and Ayda; many friends; and his loving, supportive church family.  He also leaves behind two brothers, Glenn Perkins and Steve Perkins; three sisters, Myra (Mike) LaRock, Patricia (Bob) Burns, and Karen (Randy) Stanley; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Perk was predeceased by the love of his life, Jody Howard; and his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Ella Downs.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 pm on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the First Baptist Church, Academy Street, Shinglehouse, with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor, officiating.

Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord Military honors on Sunday at the church.

I will always remember Perk's dedication and love for his family and for his church. He seldom missed a Sunday bringing Celena to both Sunday school and church. We can all learn from that dedication and love that was evidenced in his life. We will miss Perk sitting in his spot at the back of the church.Even though we all miss him, we know that he is now rejoicing in Heaven!
