CERES, PA---Paul D. “Pete†Slater, 37, of Ceres, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in his home.
Born February 22, 1976 in Kane, he was a son of William H. and Gertrude A. Hartzell Slater, Sr.
Pete was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse.
From the time Pete was 16 years old, he worked with physically and mentally handicapped individuals at several places including Camp New Horizons in Cattaraugus County, NY and the A.R.C. in Wellsville, NY.
Pete loved to go 4-wheeling and camping, often taking his clients from work, whom he cared for and so loved. He enjoyed writing poetry.
Surviving are his parents of Allegany, NY; three sisters, Kathyrn A. Nash of Burbank, California, Penny L. (Steve) Cruttenden of Middlebury Center, and Rebecca L. Slater Chapman of Angola, NY; a brother, William H. (Tammy) Slater of Shinglehouse; eleven nieces and nephews, Jessica Brown, Michael Slater, Brandon Slater, Katie Slater, Allyson Nash, Remington Chapman, Jenifer Nash, Mayanna Chapman, Madison Cruttenden, Brian Chapman, and Tiffany Chapman.
Pete was predeceased by a sister, Gloria A. Slater.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA, with the Rev. Becky L. Edwards, pastor of the Ceres United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in The Manor Cemetery Shippenville, PA.
