SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Regina M. “Jean” Wisel Pope, 91, of Shinglehouse, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 in Jones Memorial Hospital, Wellsville, after a short illness.
     Born December 14, 1921 in Ridgway, she was a daughter of William and Neva Torrey Miller.  On June 23, 1943 in Bradford, she married Grant G. Wisel, who died on July 26, 1998.  On February 19, 2000 in Shinglehouse, she married Ross R. Pope, who died on December 24, 2012.
     Jean was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School.  She graduated from beauty school in Olean, NY.  She owned and operated Regina’s Beauty Shoppe in Shinglehouse for many years, retiring at the age of 85.  She was a substitute aide and volunteer for the IU9 at the Oswayo Valley Elementary School in Shinglehouse.
     Jean was a very active member of the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse where she served as treasurer for over 35 years, was a Sunday school teacher, and also was involved with vacation Bible school.  She served as an auditor for the Shinglehouse Borough and the Oswayo Valley Memorial Library for many years and also served on the Shinglehouse Borough Election board for many years, with the last time being in the May 2013 primary.  She was a life member of the former Shinglehouse Volunteer Fireman’s Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association where she served as an EMT.  
     She was a member of the former Minnehaha Rebekah Lodge in Shinglehouse and a 40 year plus life member and past matron of Eureka Chapter #52 Order of Eastern Star in Shinglehouse.  She was also a life member of the Shinglehouse American Legion Post 530 Ladies Auxiliary. Jean and her late husband, Grant, were instrumental in the operation of the Shinglehouse Community Emergency Fund, which provides hospital beds and medical equipment to local families at no cost.
     Jean enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, knitting, and making candy.
     Surviving are a daughter, Georgia J. Phillips of Odenton, MD; five grandchildren, Drew B. (Debra) Phillips, Durke C. Phillips, Kyle G. (Amy) Wisel, Michele D. (Jay) Johnson, and Alisha M. Wisel; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, including a special “nephew”, John J. Press.
      In addition to her parents and husbands, Jean was predeceased by a son, Lyle G. Wisel; a son-in-law, Denny Phillips; a brother, William Miller; and a sister, Alice Shields.
     Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2013 in the First Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, PA with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor, officiating.  Committal services and burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse, PA.
     Members of Eureka Chapter #52 O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service at 8:45 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
