Robin L. Murray “beloved wife, mother, Nin, sister, aunt, and friend”

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA.---Robin L. Murray, 61, of Shinglehouse, passed away on her beloved son’s birthday, Friday, May 13, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer.

Robin was born on Sunday, July 3, 1960, in Olean, N.Y., to John W. and Virginia H. Miles Wenner. On April 1, 1980, in Coudersport, she married Fred E. Murray, who survives.

Beginning in her high school years at Oswayo Valley High School, from which she graduated, Robin spent her lifetime serving and caring for others. While in high school, Robin was a Candy Striper at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital. Her devotion to others continued beyond a Candy Striper, and she became a nurse’s aide before proudly graduating from the former St. Francis School of Nursing in Olean, NY as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Robin began her nursing career at Sweden Valley Manor and Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, both in Coudersport. In 1996, Robin began the start of her 26 years serving the community at the Shinglehouse Health Center, now UPMC Cole Medical Center. The community of Shinglehouse held Robin in high regard as a caring, compassionate, dedicated, and loyal nurse – but she was more than a nurse to her many patients who entrusted her with their care, she was their friend.

Robin’s lifetime of serving and caring for others and her community carried over into other parts of her life including her lifetime membership with the Shinglehouse Volunteer Fire Department, where she served as the first female president, and the Shinglehouse Ambulance Association. While Robin served in many capacities for both organizations, she was currently serving on the Board of Directors and the Membership Committee for the Fire Department and Treasurer for the Shinglehouse Ambulance Association.

Robin’s greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. Her time spent with her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly known as “Nin,” was the highlight of her life. She loved to go duck hunting with her grandson and spending time in the kitchen cooking and baking with her granddaughter, and dreaming up many other adventures and activities.

Robin is dearly loved and deeply missed by her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, Nin, sister, aunt, and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 42 years; two daughters, Christi L. (Brian) Stedman and Karen M. (Dustin Small) Murray, both of Shinglehouse; two grandchildren, Carter W. Stedman and Lily B. Stedman, both of Shinglehouse; two brothers, Ronald “Ron” Thompson of Floral City, FL and Adelbert “Stub” Thompson of Port Allegany; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Robin was predeceased by a son, Anthony James “AJ” Murray; two brothers, John E. Thompson and Richard L. “Shorty” Thompson; a special sister-in-law, Jacqueline Thompson; a great-niece, Danielle Fitzsimmons; and great-nephew, Jace Silvis.

Family and friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2022 and 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022 at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022, with Robin’s nephew Matthew Thompson of Fredericksburg, VA, officiating. She will be buried next to her beloved son, AJ, in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Robin’s name may be made to Hope Lodge, 1120 South Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14620.

Robin’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.

The family respectfully requests that face coverings be properly worn in the funeral home.
