Ross R. Pope       “beloved husband, father and grandfather”

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA----Ross R. Pope, 80, of Shinglehouse, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Wellsville Manor, Wellsville, NY, after a long illness.
      Born March 30, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, he was a son of Harold and Mildred Moody Pope.  He married Elizabeth A. Hoskinson, who died in 1997.  On February 19, 2000 in Shinglehouse, he married Regina M. Wisel, who survives.
     Mr. Pope proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  Before moving to Shinglehouse in 1976, Mr. Pope worked at several plants in the Buffalo, NY area.  In 1976 he went to work for Clark Brothers in Olean where he was employed as a welder.  Ross retired in 1997 from Dresser Rand.
     He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shinglehouse where he served as a deacon and usher.  He was a member of Sharon Lodge #598 F & AM in Shinglehouse.  He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf.  In his early years, he enjoyed working with leather.
     Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters, Katie (Robert) Ryan of Kenmore, NY and Missy (Brian) Ford of Shinglehouse; 3 sons, Guy Pope of Shinglehouse, John (Lynnette) Pope of Little Genesee, NY, and Lee (Brenda) Pope of Eden, NY; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Georgia Phillips of Odenton, Maryland; a brother, Roger (Maria) Pope of Santa Fe, NM; and several nieces and nephews.
     In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Pope was predeceased by 2 brothers, Robert Pope and Richard Pope.
     Friends may call at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, PA on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 11am to 1pm at which time funeral services will follow with the Rev. Russell J. Horning, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 68, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to the Shinglehouse Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 98, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
