SHINGLEHOUSE, PA---Thomas L. Austin, 39, of Shinglehouse, died at his home surrounded by family and friends on Thursday (April 12, 2012), after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born December 27, 1972 in Olean, NY, he was the youngest son of Harold and Marjorie Butler Austin.

Tom was a 1991 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School in Shinglehouse. He was employed by Portville Truck from 2001 until May of 2011.

Tom was a lifelong lover of the outdoors, hunting and “tinkeringâ€. He could fix anything mechanical, resurrecting many pieces of equipment over the years.

Surviving are his two brothers, Kenneth (Shelly) Austin and James (Amy) Austin, both of Shinglehouse; six nephews, Tyrel, Nathan, Jacob, Elias, Noah and Henry; a niece, Anna; two uncles, Donald Austin and Perry (Ellen) Austin, both of Shinglehouse; two aunts, Mary (Gary) Chilson of Coudersport and Edith Walker of Shinglehouse; as well as many cousins.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

At the family’s request, services will be private.
