Thomas R. Chitester âbeloved husband, father, and grandfatherâ
COUDERSPORT, PA---Thomas R. âTomâ Chitester, 72, of Coudersport, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 20, 2012.
Born November 13, 1939 in Kane, he was a son of Palmer R. and Ellen Louise Huffman Chitester. On August 26, 1967 in Coudersport, he married Nancy Walaski, who survives.
Mr. Chitester was a graduate of Coudersport High School, class of 1957. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army having served as a Military Police dog handler.
Tom was a self employed carpenter and painter, owning Chitester Construction in Coudersport.
He was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport and was a life member of the Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chairman of the centennial celebration committee for the fire department. He was a charter member of the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, a former member of the Coudersport Borough Council, and a former member of the Coudersport Jaycees.
He enjoyed hunting and loved woodworking. In his youth, Tom was an avid baseball player, having played on the Potter-McKean All Stars Little League team. Their team was the only team from the area to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
Tom loved his town of Coudersport and was very proud of his work that beautified the town. His greatest love was his family, especially his two granddaughters.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Michelle L. Chitester of Santa Rosa, California; two sons, Jason S. (Julie) Chitester and Jeremy D. Chitester, both of Coudersport; two granddaughters, Ashley M. Chitester and Briena A. Chitester; two brothers, Robert J. (Carol) Chitester of Erie and Jerry J. (Kim) Chitester of Coudersport; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by a daughter, Carrie Ann Chitester.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 in St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport with the Rev. James C. Campbell, pastor, celebrant.
Members of the Potter County Honor Guard will accord military honors on Saturday at St. Eulalia Catholic Church.
