Barbara J. Van Pelt “beloved mother, grandmother, and sister”

HEBRON, Pa.---Barbara J. “Barbie” Van Pelt, 91, of Hebron, formerly of Oswayo, passed away in her home with her loving family by her side on Thursday, July 21, 2022, after a long illness.

Born on Saturday, July 26, 1930 in Oswayo Township, she was a daughter of Earl and Margaret Dunshie Hyde. On June 6, 1948 in the Chrystal United Methodist Church, she married RLee Van Pelt, who passed away on August 20, 2014.

Barbie was a graduate of Shinglehouse High School. She worked in various positions through the years, the last one being a homemaker for Potter County.

She enjoyed being at home and also watching the birds and wildlife in general (including an occasional bear!). Barbie and her husband enjoyed rides on their UTV and going out to have a meal. Her greatest love was her family.

Left to cherish her memory are three children, Deborah J. Perkins of Sweden Valley, Rodney L. Van Pelt of Hebron, and Deanna L. (David) Johnston of Oswayo; nine grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson to be born soon; two brothers, Donald (Pat) Hyde of Eleven Mile and Douglas (Linda) Hyde of Genesee; a sister, Fran Stilson of Shinglehouse; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbie was predeceased by a son, Randy Van Pelt; and two sisters, Pat, Todd and Virginia “Ginger” Sturdevant.

In keeping with Barbie’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private graveside services will be held in the Chrystal Cemetery, Eleven Mile Road, Shinglehouse, with Pastor Fred Kemp of the Potter County Baptist Church, Shinglehouse, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Teacher’s Pet Rescue, 19 Blackberry Lane, Coudersport, PA 16915 or to the Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 651, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Barbie’s family has entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
