Elizabeth Ayers Hunsinger

December 8, 1940 — May 18, 2022

Elizabeth Ayers Hunsinger “beloved wife, mother, and grandmother”

AUSTIN, Pa.---On Wednesday, May 18, 2022, Elizabeth Ayers Hunsinger, loving wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly in her home at the age of 81.

Born on Sunday, December 8, 1940 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Emma Hulsizer Ayers and Truman A. Ayers, Sr. On October 1, 1960 in Coudersport, she married Donald M. Hunsinger who survives. After living in Charleston, SC while Don was serving in the US Navy, they made a home in the Austin/Wharton area, living there for the next 61 years. There they raised three daughters Judy, Kim and Holly. Liz (or Lib to some) had a passion for her family. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to put together puzzles and play games. Her competitive spirit and sense of joy when the family played together is something that will live in her family’s memory for years to come.

Liz was a member of the Austin United Methodist Church and a member of the Get Together Club and a former member of the former Mecca Chapter #217 Order of the Eastern Star in Austin. Liz was a strong believer in service and spent many years teaching Sunday school, leading Girl Scouts and organizing bike-a-thons to benefit childhood cancer. In addition she spent several years acting as the secretary for the Costello United Methodist Church, the secretary for Wharton Township, and the secretary for the Ayers family reunion. She was known for her kind and compassionate spirit.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Don; her children, Judy (Jerry) Meyers of Austin, Kim (Denny) Cooney of Austin, and Holly (Nick) Modock of Lake Orion, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Christy) Cooney, Lacy (Don) Ayers, Adam (Kanda) Walker, Aron (Jen) Meyers, Tyler Modock, Emma Modock, Jacob Modock, and Ryan Modock; four great-grandchildren, Hayden Ayers, Parker Mutchler, Griffin Mutchler, and Garrett Meyers; four sisters, Mary Kio, Doris Abbey, Beverly Allen, and Becky Emanuel; six brothers, Truman Ayers, Jr., Richard Ayers, Bruce Ayers, Mark Ayers, Alan Ayers, and Scott Ayers; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dale Hunsinger; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her father, Truman Ayers Sr.; her mother, Emma Hulsizer Ayers Staiger; two sons, baby Hunsinger and Scott E. Hunsinger; two brothers, Daniel Ayers and George Ayers; and two sisters, Rita Jean and Maude Irene.

Family and friends may call from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022, in the Austin United Methodist Church, Turner Street, Austin, with a celebration of life following at 3pm in the church, with the Rev. Todd Lamer, pastor, officiating.
