AUSTIN, PA---G. Mina Cooney, 86, a longtime resident of Austin, passed away on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023.

Born on Monday, September 20, 1937 in Renova, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Walter N. and Pearl M. Uhl Plotts.

Mina grew up in the Austin and Coudersport areas and was a graduate of Coudersport High School.

On June 22, 1957 in Austin, she married John L. “Jack” Cooney who preceded her in death on March 25, 2012. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing.

Mina was a homemaker whose greatest joy was her family.

In their younger years, Jack and Mina greatly enjoyed camping with their family and closet friends. She enjoyed bowling and card club with the Austin ladies. She was an avid reader and Buffalo Bills fan. She enjoyed cooking and baking.

She took great pride in her extensive collection of antiques, especially her Coudersport glass. She also spent years collecting Austin postcards and memorabilia and was an expert of the history of Austin. She was a founding member of the Austin Dam Association and volunteered her time at the E.O. Austin Historical Society.

Left to cherish her memory are a son, Michael J. (Teri) Cooney of Austin; two daughters, Sheryl L. (David) Orlowski and Anne-Marie (Donald) Blattner, both of Austin; three grandchildren, Joshua D. (Staci) Cooney of Muncy, Chase M. (Hilary) Cooney of Austin, and Tracy L. Orlowski of Austin; four great-grandchildren, Carly Jo and Carson Cooney of Austin and Liam and Amelia Cooney, of Muncy; two sisters-in-law; and multiple nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mina was predeceased by a granddaughter, Amy Jean Cooney; two brothers, Wesley N. Plotts and David L. Plotts; and a sister, Lucy Plotts.

In keeping with Mina’s wishes, services will be held privately. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery with her beloved husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mina’s name may be made to the Austin Ambulance Association, PO Box 328, Austin, PA 16720 or to McGuire Memorial, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton, PA 15066.

Mina’s family entrusted her care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
