James L. Cox “beloved father and grandfather”

COUDERSPORT, Pa.---James L. “Jim” Cox, 74, of Coudersport, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport, after a long illness.

Born on Tuesday, November 4, 1947 in Logan, Iowa, he was a son of Byron F. and Erma M. Archer Cox. On December 21, 1968 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he married Joyce K. Betts, who passed away on February 3, 2015.

Jim attended Council Bluffs High School. Jim served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of SP4. He served two tours of duty.

For most of his life, Jim was an over the road truck driver. He retired in 2020 due to health reasons.

He enjoyed fishing and riding his 4-wheeler. His greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are three children, Shane R. Cox of Brownwood, Texas, Cherie D. Cox of Coudersport, and Lance C. Cox of Brownwood, Texas; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; three brothers, Harold (Pat) Cox, Robert (Pam) Cox, and Albert (Hazel) Cox; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jim was preceded in death by two brothers.

There will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Coudersport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Jim’s family entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
