James W. Rimel “beloved husband, father, and grandfather”

COUDERSPORT, Pa.---James W. “Jim” Rimel, 81, a longtime resident of Coudersport, passed away with his loving family by his side on Saturday, May 14, 2022, in UPMC Cole Place, Coudersport, after a long illness.

Born on Sunday, March 16, 1941 in Leechburg, he was a son of Charles and Yvonne Varner Rimel. On January 25, 1978 in Coudersport, he married Ellen E. Stambaugh, who survives.

Jim was a graduate of Leechburg High School. He was US Navy veteran having served his country for two years. Jim was employed in various capacities throughout the years in Coudersport, lastly working as corrections officer and cook at the Potter County Jail until his retirement.

He was a member of Coudersport American Legion Potter Post 192. He loved to fish and hunt with his boys.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years; four children, Joseph E. (Missy) Russell of Coudersport, Thomas E. Russell of Phoenix, Arizona, Shielia L. (Rich Fitzsimmons) Russell of Linwood, N.Y., and Brian S. (Denise) Russell of Port Allegany; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers,, Charles Rimel of Wellsboro, Tom Foster, Mark Foster, and John Foster, all of Leechburg; two sisters,, Linda Broda and Carol Foster, both of Leechburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Jim was predeceased by his parents.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on a date and place to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Coudersport American Legion Potter Post 192, 2 Buffalo Street, Coudersport, PA 16915.

Jim’s family has entrusted his care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
