Makena Lee Austin “Beloved Daughter, Feral Sister, Wild Auntie, and Truest Friend”

SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---Makena Lee “Kenna” Austin, 22, of Shinglehouse, tragically passed away with her whole loving family and most prized friends by her side on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born on Thursday, March 15, 2001 in Coudersport, she was a daughter of Douglas R. and Hellen J. Limrick Ryan.

She was a graduate of Oswayo Valley High School, Class of 2019, Shinglehouse. An accomplished artist and photographer, Kenna was accepted into the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts juried High School Art Exhibits at St. Bonaventure University when she was a senior in high school. She also made honors in the choir in high school as an alto singer.

After graduation, Kenna worked with her father at XPO Transportation in Olean, NY. At the time of her passing, she was employed as a machine operator at Morgan AMT in Coudersport.

Kenna loved all animals, babies and music. She loved to do her makeup and take photos. She enjoyed realism art, especially portraits, having done portraits of her family members. Her nieces and nephews were her “babies”. Kenna loved Giraffes and gifted every new baby with a special stuffie infused with her love. Kenna had a song for everyone and every situation possible. Kenna loved to sing and dance no matter who was watching. Kenna was a proud mother to her cats and dogs who she would take everywhere with her. Kenna was the most loving Auntie who would spoil every child in her own way. She was an amazing sister who would fight hard with and for her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents of Shinglehouse; eight siblings, Amanda K. Austin of Eldred PA, her children Jaden, Owen, and Zoe; Calvin J. (Steve) Hall of Macon, Georgia, and their fur babies; Whitney R. (Chad Weimer) Austin of Millport and their children Emrick, Leviathan, and Evander; Jessica L. Ryan of Bradford and her children Letty, Mia, and Dominic; Chance M. (Casey) Austin of Bradford and their fur babies; Cody G. (Caitlyn Daniels) Austin of Coudersport and their children, Aubrey, and Remaleigh; Brandon D. (Sidney) Ryan of Bolivar and their children Rhaea, Iris, and Quill; and Mason R. (Britney) Estes of Concordia, Kansas and Nevaeh; her maternal grandmother, Joanne Limrick of Bradford; her paternal grandparents, William and Carol Ryan of Shinglehouse; her beloved dogs, Sissy and Whiskey; her cats, Uno and Dooter; her Aunt June (Davis) and her children Troy, Patty (Duddley) their children Evan, Anthony, and Dallas; Tasha her children Dominic and Sophia; Aunt Bev her son Michael; her Uncle Phillip (Shannon) their children Robert and Zoey; her cousins Kenneth (Brandi) their children Tyler, Kylie, Bristol, and Brantley; Terri (Chad) and Betsy her children Leila, Elizabeth, Natalie; her Aunt Kandi (Mark) their children, Brandon, Kala, Bradley, and Kait; Aunt Glendaher children, Courtney, Chris, and Maxx; Kenna’s most prized friends, Katelynn Redeye her children Aliylah and Brynna; her bonus parents, Cybil Martin; Wendy and Bruce Whitman; Jody Newton; Kennedy (Jordan) Whitman and fur babies; Sydney (Michael) Torrey their fur babies; Kloie (Brandon) Martin-Peterson and their fur babies.

Makena was predeceased by her infant daughter; her maternal grandfather, Kenneth L. Limrick, her Aunt Anne (Limirck) Mosher, her cousin Maddox and a brother-in-law, Brandon M. Pierce.

Makena’s last gift was to be an organ donor so others may live. Her heart will go on to another, along with everything else she could give. Changing the lives of so many people. She is no longer just her family's hero. Her selfless giving in her passing means many more Christmases, Thanksgivings, and Birthdays for other families. These recipients will ensure that Makena lives on.

A quote that Makena liked, and sadly we must now live by-

 “And life went on,

It was not the same,

But it went on.”

There will be no public visitation. A celebration of her life will be held on a date and place to be announced.

Makena’s family entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
