Margaret E. Safford “Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother”

FRIENDSHIP, NY---Margaret E. Safford, 78, of Friendship, formerly of Ceres, Pa., passed away with her loving family by her side on Saturday, March 26, 2022, in ECMC, Buffalo, after a short illness.

Born on Wednesday, November 17, 1943, in Olean, she was the daughter of John and Ruth Reed King. On September 2, 1962, in the Ceres United Methodist Church, she married Thomas C. "Tom" Safford, who passed away on February 25, 2016.

Margaret was an Oswayo Valley High School graduate, Class of 1961, in Shinglehouse. She and her husband were foster parents for 32 years to many children providing a loving and caring home.

Margaret was a member of the Ceres United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching the Food Network and QVC. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Her greatest love was her family.

Surviving are five children, Patti A. Shreve of Little Genesee, Timothy C. (Dianne) Safford of Bolivar, Lea R. (Gary) Dorrett of Friendship, Charity J. Safford of Bradford, Pa., and Zachary Slater of Greensburg, Pa.; six grandchildren, Ryan Keiser, Nichole (Jamie MacDonell) Weber, Brandon Keiser, Shannon (Gamaliel Vazquez) Weber, and Sarah and Susanmarie Safford, who Margaret and Tom raised: four great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Tavyn, Ethan and Olivia; a brother, William (Mary) King of Florida; 3 Sisters-In-Law, Edith Walker, Alice Walker, Bobbie King, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was predeceased by a grandson, Aaron James Safford; a sister, Viola "Sooky" (Paul) Mong; and three brothers, Bernard "Sonny" Walker, Larry Walker, and John King.

In keeping with Margaret's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Private burial services will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Ceres, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials made to ECMC Foundation, 462 Grider Street, Buffalo, New York 14215. All memorials will go to the Rocco C. Venuto, MD Transplant and Vascular Access Center.

Margaret's family has entrusted her care and cremation arrangements to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse, PA.
