William K. Dickerson “beloved father and grandfather”
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa.---William K. “Bill” Dickerson, 94, of Shinglehouse, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, after a long illness.
Born on Sunday, March 10, 1929 in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Harold J. and Edith LaDue Dickerson. On February 13, 1949 in Bolivar, N.Y., he married Theo A. Richardson, who passed away on August 21, 2022, after 73 years of wedded bliss.
Bill attended the Chrystal Country School, the Sharon Center County School, and the Millport Country School. For many years Bill was employed by Acme Electric in Allegany, N.Y. and also worked for Air-Preheater in Wellsville, N.Y. He was a lifelong farmer, running the family farm.
Bill was a member of the former Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Shinglehouse. He served on the Board of Directors of the Maple Grove Cemetery Association in Shinglehouse, and was a member and past president of the Oswayo Valley Historical Society in Shinglehouse. He loved woodworking and enjoyed his model trains, having donated a train he made which is on display in the Oswayo Valley Memorial Library in Shinglehouse. In his younger years, he enjoyed deer hunting. His greatest love was his family.
Left to cherish his memory are seven children, Lila Curry of Genesee, Karl (Ronda) Dickerson of Eleven Mile Road, Carolyn (Dave) Gustin of Shinglehouse, Earl (Sharon) Dickerson of Shinglehouse, Don (Judy) Dickerson of Eleven Mile Road, Rod (Kim) Dickerson of Eleven Mile Road, and Bradley (Carla) Dickerson of McConnellsburg; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lowell “Tom” (Cecelia) Dickerson of Shinglehouse; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Bill was predeceased by a daughter, Lois Maryette Duell; five grandchildren, Shellia Duell, Andrew Nelson, Melissa Drake, Jessica Dickerson, and William “Billy” Dickerson; a great-grandson, Dawson Mesler; four brothers, Edward Dickerson, Jerald Dickerson, Robert Dickerson, and Orin Dickerson; a sister, Betty Linza; and three sons-in-law, Ed Curry, Buck Drake, and Chester “Bill” Duell; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Dickerson.
Family and friends may call from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday and from 11am to 12 noon on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union Street, Shinglehouse, where funeral services will follow at 12 noon with Alan L. Mertsock, pastor of Myrtle Gospel Tabernacle, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Shinglehouse.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oswayo Valley Memorial Library, PO Box 188, Shinglehouse, PA 16748 or to the Oswayo Valley Historical Society, PO Box 603, Shinglehouse, PA 16748.
Bill entrusted his care to Kevin J. Dusenbury, funeral director/owner of the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse.
